The new kids on the Auckland indie-rock block have come to take over the Australian scene. Between shows on their hectic tour schedule Shaky Hands managed to set aside a few minutes to get brief about lies, amyl and doing sneaky things on New Zealand farms… um, yeah, o–kay…
What is it like being part of a band that was born in and spent all of its childhood thus far in Auckland?
Like playing poker in a retirement home, constantly checking out the uber hot physiotherapist and thinking about what you would do to her if you could still get it up. Beyond that, it’s alright.
From an outsider perspective there seems to be quite the scene developing in Auckland, does it feel like that when you’re in amongst it all?
The kids man, the kids they fucking love it.
You guys have been busy, busy, busy on the road of late how do you find space in your hectic schedule for Shaky Hands ‘alone’ time?
Lies.
What is it you get up to during this ‘alone’ time, pray tell?
Do amyl and sneak into farms.
How do Shaky Hands plan to change the face of music in Australia and New Zealand?
Play a lot of shows and teach all those uptight kids around here to put down their clipboards. Show them that it is alright to, you know, relax, dance and get into things.
Rumour on the street is that Cut Off Your Hands was a self-produced EP. What production experience did you guys have going into the project?
None.
And what of the impending debut album to follow your debut EP?
Yeah we are very excited to get our shit out there and make all the kids dance.
Extreme haka? For or against?
If you going to dance like that you might as well mean it. So extreme haka.
